LONDON: WhatsApp, the global messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly working on an innovative voice chat mode designed to improve user interaction with Meta AI. This new feature, still in development, aims to allow users to engage in real-time voice conversations with the AI, providing a more dynamic and hands-free communication experience.

The feature was unveiled in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.24.18.18, which is available on the Google Play Store. According to WABetaInfo, a prominent source for information on WhatsApp updates, the voice chat mode will enable users to personalize their interaction with Meta AI by choosing from various voice options that suit their preferences.

This enhancement will facilitate a more natural and efficient communication process by eliminating the need for text input. Users will be able to communicate with the AI chatbot using voice commands, which is expected to streamline interactions and provide quicker responses. The feature is designed to improve accessibility and usability, especially in scenarios where typing is impractical.

The integration of voice chat mode includes a new shortcut for accessing Meta AI. Users will find a floating action button within their chats list that will activate the voice chat feature, making it easier to initiate voice-based interactions with the AI.

WhatsApp is also incorporating privacy controls into the new feature. Users will have the option to opt out of the voice chat mode, ensuring they retain control over their privacy. A visual indicator provided by the Android OS will show when Meta AI is no longer listening.
