SOLAPUR: In India, 50 young men wearing wedding dresses staged a unique protest on the streets, the video of which is going viral on social media where 50 grooms are demanding their brides.

According to Indian media reports, to the surprise of everyone, 50 young men patrolled the streets as grooms in the state of Maharashtra.

The bride and groom

The young men in ‘’sehras’’ (wedding crowns in Asian countries) had drums in their hands while some were riding horses. While passing through the streets, they demanded, ‘Where is my bride?’ Then reached the collector’s office in Solapur and ended the protest.

They were actually demanding that the law passed by the Parliament to ‘stop the genocide of girls and stop the falling sex ratio’ should be implemented. Due to the falling ratio of girls in India, the country has attempted to manage it through some policy enactment. India has primarily focused on creating legislation related to population control resulting in pressures to have a son. Some regions in India have incentivized parents to give birth to daughters by offering money to families with girls to offset the expenses associated with having a daughter.
