WASHINGTON: The White House has accused North Korea of delivering more than 1,000 containers of military arsenal and munitions to Russia in recent days for use in Ukraine, Western media reported on Friday.

The statement comes a month after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the US condemns the DPRK for giving military equipment to Russia to be used to target Ukrainian cities and kill Ukrainian civilians.

He said that the US will continue to monitor for any additional DPRK arms consignments to Russia.

Kirby said Pyongyang was seeking military support from Russia, including fighter aircrafts, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, ballistic missile equipment and other technologies.

He strongly believed that such move would undermine regional stability.

According to the White House a load of containers was transported from Najin, North Korea, to Dunay, Russia from sea between September 1 and October 1.

US claimed that the shipment was later delivered by rail to an ammunition depot near Tikhoretsk in southwestern Russia, 290 kilometers away from the border of Ukraine.

Earlier US accused North Korea of supplying shells to Russia’s Wagner Group.

According to Ukrainian figures Russian forces are firing about 60,000 rounds per day.

Russia and North Korea have been facing global sanctions, Moscow for its war on Ukraine, and Pyongyang for its testing of nuclear arms.

Kirby added the deliveries by North Korea to Russia were against UN Security Council resolutions.
