GENEVA: The UN World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and implementing the relevant United Nations Security Council’s resolutions.
WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris on Tuesday said that Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza has run out of service and cannot provide any medical services because of the Israeli attacks over the past two weeks against the hospital, adding that 21 patients have died during the Israeli siege of the medical facility.
She said the destruction of Al-Shifa Medical Complex means the complete collapse of the health system in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson went on to say that if access to the hospital and the few remaining healthcare facilities in the north of Gaza is allowed, the WHO would include providing supplies of medicine, food, fuel and assessing additional requirements to save the lives of the remaining patients.
The spokesperson said that WHO teams have been trying hard to reach the hospital for several days but most of their projects turned away.
