GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarm over the deteriorating situation in Gaza, emphasizing that the humanitarian crisis is escalating by the hour as Israeli bombings intensify in the southern areas around Khan Younis and Rafah.

Richard Peeperkorn, the WHO representative in Gaza, spoke to reporters via video link, describing the current conditions as dire and highlighting the increased vulnerability of the health system in the densely populated enclave.

Peeperkorn expressed deep concern about the inadequacy of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza, stating that it is “way too little” to meet the growing needs of the affected population. As people in Gaza move further south to escape the intensifying bombings, the strain on the health system becomes more pronounced.

WHO Terms Gaza Situation as Increasing Humanitarian Disaster

The WHO representative emphasized that the situation is evolving into an “increasing humanitarian disaster.”

In response to an Israeli order to remove supplies from warehouses in Khan Younis, Peeperkorn stated that the WHO had complied with the directive. He noted that the area was expected to become a zone of active combat in the coming days.

The WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, had previously appealed to Israel to withdraw the order, while Israel denied requesting the evacuation of warehouses.
