GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending over one million polio vaccines to Gaza to prevent children being infected after the deadly virus was detected in sewage samples, WHO chief said on Friday.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that no cases of polio have been reported yet, without immediate action, it is just a matter of time before it reaches the children who have been left unprotected.

The development comes as earlier, a top official of the WHO expressed fear over possible outbreaks in war-hit Gaza after the poliovirus was detected in the sewage.
