ISLAMABAD: Among the United States (US) political personalities those who will be skipping the inauguration include former first lady Michelle Obama. Michelle will not attend Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
US media cited her office as saying that she would not attend the oath-taking ceremony, however, the office did not provide any reason for her absence.
Nancy Pelosi
CBS news reported that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will also not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
Local media cited her spokesperson as saying that Nancy Pelosi will not attend the ceremony but did not provide any reason for her decision.
According to CBS news, Pelosi led House Democrats during the first Trump administration and attended his inauguration in 2017.
However, former President Barack Obama, the 44th president, is expected at the swearing-in ceremony, according to media reports.
Outgoing president Joe Biden will attend the ceremony — despite Trump’s refusal to appear at Biden’s swearing in when he beat Trump in 2020, according to AFP.
All living former presidents including George W Bush, and Bill Clinton will attend the event. Trump has indicated that he is preparing to sign multiple executive orders as early as his first day in office, aimed at undoing many of the Biden administration’s policies.
Among multiple promises for day one, Trump has pledged to launch a mass deportation program. He has also said he might immediately begin pardoning January 6 rioters, his followers who ransacked the Capitol in 2021.
