HARBIN, CHINA: The Harbin Ice-Snow World, a popular ice-and-snow theme park that drew thousands of visitors during the current winter travel surge was officially closed for the season on Friday due to increasing temperatures.

According to park officials, the park welcomed 2.71 million visitors during its 61-day operation. However, the recent rise in temperatures in Harbin, the capital city of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, has led to the melting of several ice sculptures. Some severely affected sculptures had to be dismantled for safety reasons.

Situated on the bank of the frozen Songhua River, the Harbin Ice-Snow World stands as a prominent landmark, crafted from 250,000 cubic meters of ice and snow.

Since its inception in December 1999, commemorating the millennium, the park has been created in 25 editions. This season, the park, along with other winter attractions in northeast China, gained significant attention on Chinese social media platforms. —Xinhua/APP
