ISLAMABAD: Why Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz left for London a few days after her acquittal in the Avenfield case followed by getting possession of her passport, earlier seized by National Accountability Bureau, on the orders of Lahore High Court.?
According to The Express Tribune, Maryam Nawaz departed for London at 10 am on October 5 on the orders of the party’s supremo, former premier and her father, Nawaz Sharif.
According to party insiders, the decision to leave the country immediately was taken as a result of reports by intelligence agencies regarding the planned long march of the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf and its potential success.
Sources claimed that the decision was motivated by worries about potential political repercussions that may be caused once former prime minister Imran Khan moves close to the federal capital.
According to sources, government officials had informed Nawaz Sharif that there was a probability that Imran Khan would stand triumphant during his long march, leading to a potential political uproar. Party officials claimed that Maryam Nawaz “may have encountered challenges while staying in the country in case the PTI’s planned long march succeeds” and that she won’t be able to return to Pakistan until the PTI’s long march is over.
Maryam, like the rest of her siblings, sought safety in London under the protection of her father and she will operate the party’s functions and decisions from London where Nawaz Sharif is residing for more than two years, party insiders said.
Maryam Nawaz left for London to spend a month with her father, who has been in London since November 2019. The father and the daughter reconnected in London last week after three years apart.
