Workshop on Improving Primary Healthcare Services in KP Held in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Human Capital Investment Project (KP-HCIP) Health Department conducted a one-day workshop here a local hotel on Thursday with an aim to improve Primary Healthcare Services (PHS) in selected districts of the province.

The workshop focused on the assessment of stakeholder needs for the development of training modules, with the primary goal of improving the availability, utilization, and quality of healthcare services.

The workshop aimed to gather crucial and valuable information about existing training manuals or modules, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses, aligning them with on-ground needs, and identifying potential improvements in a clear, precise and concise manner.

Addressing participants of the workshop, Project Director KP-HCIP, Health Department Dr. Ikram Ullah Khan said that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the support of the World Bank’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Human Capital Investment Project, was committed to enhancing primary healthcare services in selected districts, including Haripur, Nowshera, Peshawar, and Swabi.

Explaining the project’s objectives, Dr. Ikram Ullah Khan stressed upon the need to improve the availability, utilization, and quality of primary healthcare services to ensure continuous, high-quality health services. “The project also aims to reinforce secondary healthcare facilities and referral systems”, he said.

“An essential aspect of the project involves strengthening the health support staff, enhancing their skills and knowledge to deliver superior healthcare services to the community,” the project director informed.

Dr. Ikram Ullah Khan shared the importance of training modules and manuals to standardize education, improve skills, and ensure consistent high-quality care.

Improvement in Healthcare Services in KP

Meanwhile, Caretaker Health Adviser for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Riaz Anwar in his remarks said that he has noted a significant improvement in health across the four planned districts of the region.

“Over the past ten months, I have observed a positive transformation in the healthcare system, Dr Riaz Anwar shared.

The Health Advisor commended the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Care Improvement Project (KP HCIP), emphasizing that the initiative has played a pivotal role in fostering positive changes within the health system.

Dr. Shoukat Ali, Director General Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in his views highlighted that training provided structured learning experiences, promotes adherence to best practices, and empowers healthcare professionals with up-to-date knowledge. This, in turn, improves patient outcomes and safety.

He gratitude to KP-HCIP and acknowledged the vital role of the Provincial Health Services Academy (PHSA) in providing quality training to healthcare staff.

The workshop was attended by DG PHSA Dr. Sahib Gul, Additional DGHS Admin Dr. Siraj Khan, ADGS M&E Dr. Abid Hussain, Chief HSRU Dr. Khalil and Principal PGPI Dr. Shaheen Afridi, District Health Officers from selected districts, and health officials from various programs.
