World Bank Major Development Partner of Pakistan: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that World Bank (WB) has a significant role in human development, and Pakistan considered the ban as a major partner in development.

He said that while having a meeting with a delegation of the World Bank led by Ms. Mamta Murthi, Vice President of WB for Human Development, here on Thursday.

Earlier, the Finance Minister welcomed the Vice President of WB for Human Development here at Foreign Office. He praised the World Bank’s development projects in Pakistan. He expressed gratitude for the financial and technical support being provided by the leading bank for meeting the development needs of the country.

Vice President, Ms. Murthi, highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, particularly in education, health & nutrition, population control, social protection, and women’s development. She also underscored the importance of local ownership and community participation in implementing development projects.

Moreover, the vice president shared her views on the best Human Development practices being followed in the region and expressed the desire to initiate the same in Pakistan.

World Bank assistance in development

The Finance Minister apprised the Vice President about the government’s policies and programs related to major areas of human development in order to uplift the masses and eliminate poverty in the country.

Ishaq Dar also expressed the commitment of the government to work in collaboration with the World Bank to achieve their shared goals of sustainable development in Pakistan.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Finance Mr. Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Finance, and other senior officials from Finance Division also attended the meeting.
