ISLAMABAD: Today, Pakistan joins the international community in observing World Human Rights Day, focusing on the theme “Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All.” This annual commemoration marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948, aiming to raise awareness and spur collective action to uphold human rights globally.
President Dr Arif Alvi reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the rights of all citizens, citing the country’s constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other relevant international instruments as guiding principles. In his message, President Alvi emphasized that Pakistan has implemented a range of legal, economic, and social measures to promote and protect fundamental rights. He noted the nation’s efforts in providing an enabling environment with equal opportunities for all minority groups, ensuring their enjoyment of social, political, and economic rights. Expressing concern for the people of Palestine facing state terrorism and ethnic cleansing by Israel, the President called for global intervention to address these critical issues. He also highlighted the pressing need for international attention to human rights abuses in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, in his World Human Rights Day message, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing and safeguarding human rights domestically and internationally. He underscored Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to promoting respect for and protection of the rights and freedoms of all citizens. The Caretaker Prime Minister condemned India’s violations of human rights in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling for an immediate end to such abuses. Pakistan continues to offer moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiri people in their just struggle against India’s occupation and oppression. Addressing the situation in Palestine, the Caretaker Prime Minister condemned Israel’s purposeful, indiscriminate, and disproportionate targeting of civilians, stressing that such actions violate international law and human rights standards.
On World Human Rights Day, both the President and the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan have emphasized the critical need for upholding human rights principles both nationally and globally. Their messages call for collective efforts to address violations and advocate for a world where freedom, equality, and justice prevail for all.
