World’s Coldest City Yakutsk in Grip of Severe Winter as Temperature Drops to -50 Celsius

ISLAMABAD:  Amidst an unusually long cold snap in Russia’s Yakutsk, which is described as the coldest city on the planet, the temperatures plunged to minus 50 degrees Celsius a few days back.

The city in Siberia is located 5,000 kilometers east of Moscow and the city dwellers often see temperatures well below minus 40. The city is a mining hub and is in Russian Far East’s permafrost region.

A resident of the city, Anastasia Gruzdeva said that a person cannot fight the cold, however, one can has only two options, adjust or suffer.

Gruzdeva was seen wearing two pairs of gloves, multiple hats and hoods along with two scarves.

She added that as a person’s brain prepares them for the cold, one does not feel cold in the city.

Another dweller of Yakutsk, Nurgusun Starostina said that one needs to dress in layers, like a cabbage so that one is dressed warmly.

Starostina sells frozen fish at a market but does not need a fridge or freezer and added that there were really special secrets on how to deal with the cold.
