ISLAMABAD: Men carrying sticks destroyed surveillance cameras and windows at a massive campus owned by Apple iPhone supplier Foxconn in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou on Wednesday.

The incident was broadcast live on the Kuaishou short video platform. Most of the footage has been taken down, according to Reuters. The campus is home to the world’s largest iPhone factory. Hundreds of workers were seen protesting at the campus, demanding their pay.

Recently, scores of employees fled the factory over COVID-19 controls. According to media reports, former workers have complained about strict quarantine rules and food shortages.

Discontent has grown due to China’s strict COVID-19 measures and spot lockdowns, which have slowed economic growth and raised concerns about global supply chains as businesses struggle to keep factories operating as workers become infected.
