MIRPUR: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) will mark October 27 as a black day, a day when Indian forces unlawfully entered Srinagar in 1947. This date signifies a painful chapter of occupation, subjugation, and suffering for the innocent Kashmiri people.

Each year, Kashmir’s Black Day is observed on both sides of the LoC and by the worldwide Kashmiri diaspora to protest against India’s illegal occupation and to remind the international community of its responsibilities regarding the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions that advocate for the right to a plebiscite for Kashmiris.

In Srinagar, posters and banners have been appeared in various locations, urging people to observe October 27 as Black Day, as reported by Kashmir Media Service (KMS).

These posters, displayed by organizations such as All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Resistance Youth Forum Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Warseen-e-Shohda, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement, Jammu Kashmir Students Forum, and others, characterize October 27, 1947, as the darkest chapter in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

The posters affixed to walls, buildings, and utility poles emphasize that Kashmiris will persist in their struggle until they secure their right to self-determination, as promised by the international community.

People are encouraged to stand against the Indian BJP-RSS government’s Hindutva agenda in Kashmir by designating October 27 as Black Day. It is noted that India is altering educational curricula and dismissing Muslim employees to advance its Hindutva agenda in IIOJK.

Social Media Mobilization for Kashmir’s Black Day

Social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and WhatsApp, are being used to voice opposition to the illegal occupation and advocate for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mushtaq Hussain Gilani, in conversation with APP, expressed his deep disappointment that the Kashmir dispute remains unresolved despite UNSC resolutions.

He believes that India has unleashed a reign of terror in occupied Kashmir to silence Kashmiri voices and punish them for demanding the right to self-determination. On August 5, 2019, India revoked Kashmir’s special status to facilitate settler colonization.

Gilani remarked, “The world’s silence regarding human rights violations, the unilateral decision of August 05, 2019, and the non-implementation of UN resolutions have emboldened India to persist with its brutal policies.”

In Muzaffarabad, under the Shuhada Foundation Jammu and Kashmir, a significant protest rally will be conducted at Burhan Chowk to denounce the illegal occupation. Eminent leaders of the movement are scheduled to address the participants, as per the foundation’s statement.

Protest rallies, seminars, and conferences are planned in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and across the world to condemn the 1947 invasion and the revocation of the territory’s special status on August 5, 2019.

It is worth noting that in an entirely unprovoked move, India deployed its army in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, based on the so-called accession agreement with Maharaja Hari Singh, occupying it against the wishes of its people. Since then, India has committed severe human rights violations in the region, and since 1989, as many as 96,246 people have lost their lives. The nightmare that began on October 27, 1947, continues to haunt the people of Kashmir, who suffer daily under the occupying forces.

Currently, India maintains approximately one million troops in Kashmir, making it the most heavily militarized zone in the world.
