BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Monday discussed the Gaza situation in a telephonic conversation, with a shared commitment “to avoid a more serious humanitarian crisis.”
According to Beijing’s state media CCTV, the two leaders exchanged perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasizing the urgent need to prevent further deterioration of the situation between Palestine and Israel. The primary focus was on averting a more severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Gaza Discussion Before French Minister’s Visit
The phone conversation took place just before French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna’s scheduled visit to China. Meanwhile, a delegation comprising top diplomats from the Palestinian Authority, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan visited Beijing for talks aimed at de-escalating the conflict in Gaza.
CCTV further reported that Xi and Macron agreed to “continue to maintain communication on international and regional issues of common concern and contribute to maintaining world peace and stability.”
The state broadcaster underscored the importance of the ‘two-state solution’ as the fundamental approach to resolving the recurring conflict between Palestine and Israel.
Macron had previously visited China in April for a three-day state visit, during which he engaged in discussions with Xi in Beijing and interacted with students in the southern city of Guangzhou.
