AL-MUKALLA: Yemen’s government has welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) extensive diplomatic efforts in order to end eight-year of war between the Houthi militia and the government.

Muammar Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Information minister said that his government lauds Riyadh efforts in order to end the war in Yemen and restore peace in the country. He added that they would support any peace step that would end the suffering of the people of Yemen.

The minister said, “We express our gratitude for the excellent efforts made by the KSA to restore peace to Yemen, as well as our complete support for its efforts to bring peace in the region and move it from a phase of conflicts and internal trouble to one of stability”.

He said that the coalition military intervention in his country in March 2015 had put a stop to Houthi advances and shifted the balance of power in the favor of government, allowing them to eject Houthi from about eighty percent of Yemen.

He added that they greatly value the economic, political, and humanitarian help provided to the Yemeni government and its people by the coalition government.

Similarly, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani on Monday reiterated Tehran’s support for extending the ceasefire in Yemen and ending the conflict, expressing hope that Iran’s reconciliation will open a path to peace.

“The Iranian spokesman also hoped that the new scenario in the region would result in the formation of a long term peace in Yemen for the advantage of the people in Yemen”.
