AL-MUKALLA: The Houthis have slowed down their attacks on military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea because of Oman-sponsored talks between them and global partners, Arab media reported on Sunday.

For the first time in a week, US Central Command, or CENTCOM, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency, or UKMTO did not report any Houthi attacks on foreign ships near Yemen’s Red Sea.

The Houthis have started ballistic missiles and drone attacks at military and commercial ships in the Red Sea to pressurize Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza and allow water, food and other supplies to enter the Palestinian territory.

The decrease in Houthi attacks on Sunday came hours after Houthi chief negotiator Mohammed Abdul Salam stated that global partners were in talks with them about their Red Sea attacks.

Abdul Salam on social media platform X said that they assured everyone that their operations are to help the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and that cannot remain silent to the Israeli aggression in the strip, as there is no food, medicine or even drinking water.

CENTCOM has said that a US Navy ship deployed in the Red Sea shot down 14 Houthi drones on Saturday.

Ali Al-Fakih, a senior journalist, said that to stop military reprisals from the US or any other nation, Oman is trying to bring down tensions in the Red Sea caused by the Houthi attacks.
