ALBAWABA: The Houthis, on Sunday confirmed they used drones and missiles to target a cargo vessel in the Gulf of Aden after an Israeli attack in Al Hudaydah governorate of Yemen on Saturday.
The group said the ship’s breach of a restriction stopping it from entering Israeli ports was the reason for the assault.
Earlier, Houthis claimed responsibility for the Explosion in Tel Aviv that caused casualties. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, in an address on Al-Masirah TV, said that the group’s fighters had started a military campaign in the Gulf of Aden.
He said the owner of the ship violated the Israeli port access prohibition, resulting in ballistic missiles and drone strikes against the Singapore-flagged Lobivia. Saree confirmed that the ship was hit directly.
The spokesperson called on all Islamic countries to fulfill their obligations to the Palestinian people and to take an active role in the unavoidable battle.
According to the “Ambrey” maritime security agency the cargo ship was targeted around 80 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni coastal city of Aden. No injuries were reported from the incident.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the container ship Lobivia was attacked. According to the authorities, the ship had traveled to the port of Berbera in Somalia to evaluate the damage and the required repairs.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also expressed his concern over Israel’s airstrikes on Al Hudaydah in Yemen, urging all parties to avoid attacks that could harm civilians and damage infrastructure.
The strikes, a retaliation for a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv, left several dead and over 80 injured. The Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV in its broadcast stated that Israeli planes targeted a power plant and a fuel storage facility.
