COPENHAGEN: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a resolute message on Monday, asserting his confidence in Ukraine’s eventual victory over Russia in the ongoing conflict.

Speaking before a supportive crowd outside the Danish parliament, Zelensky voiced his conviction that Russia’s bid for control would ultimately falter.

“Today we are confident that Russia will lose this war… I’m sure that we will win because the truth is on our side,” declared Zelensky. The gathering responded with cheers and the waving of Ukrainian flags, demonstrating solidarity with his sentiments.

Zelensky’s statement came in the wake of Denmark’s announcement, joined by the Netherlands, that they would supply American F-16 fighter jets to bolster Kyiv’s outdated air force. This move aligns with Ukraine’s persistent efforts to push back against Russian forces in the eastern theater of conflict.

“The main thing is what we prove with our victory, with our cooperation… Together we prove that life is a value, that people matter. Freedom matters, Europe matters,” emphasized the Ukrainian leader, underscoring the significance of the collaboration.

He further stated, “It will be a common victory. Of truth, of democracy, of our people, of our nations.”

Denmark to Deliver 19 F-16 Jets to Ukraine

Yesterday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen disclosed that Denmark would deliver a total of 19 F-16s, with six slated for delivery by year’s end, eight in the following year, and five in 2025. This aid comes despite Russia’s vocal concern over the escalation that these advanced jets may bring to the conflict.

Russian Ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, expressed his view on the matter, stating, “By hiding behind a premise that Ukraine itself must determine the conditions for peace, Denmark seeks with its deeds and words to leave Ukraine no choice but to continue the military confrontation with Russia.” Barbin’s statement was shared with AFP.

He added, “Such a position pushes Ukraine into the abyss and condemns its people to new victims.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously indicated that Moscow would view the F-16s as a potential “nuclear” threat due to their capacity to carry atomic weapons.
