KYIV:  Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed the commander of the military’s medical forces and called for rapid changes in the operations of Ukraine’s army, Western media reported on Sunday.

He took the decision after meeting with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. He also attended a debate over the conduct of the army in the 20-month-old war against Russia, with questions over the counteroffensive in the east and south.

Zelensky in a video address said that during his meeting with Defense Minister Umerov, priorities were set saying quick action is required for forthcoming changes as there is little time left to wait for outcomes.

Maj. Gen. Anatoliy Kazmirchuk, appointed as new commander

He said Maj. Gen. Anatoliy Kazmirchuk, has been appointed as new commander of the Armed Forces Medical Forces. He would replace Maj. Gen. Tetiana Ostashchenko.

Ukrainian leader said the country needs a fundamentally new level of medical support for its soldiers which included better bandages, digitalization and better communication.

Ukraine’s military acknowledged that last week its troops had taken control of areas on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.

Earlier, Ukrainian commander in chief General Valery Zaluzhniy said the war was entering a new phase and Ukraine needed sophisticated technology to counter the Russian army.

Zelensky though denied the war is headed into a stalemate asked its western partners to maintain levels of military support.
