KYIV: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that he had not seen a peace roadmap pledged by Beijing but wanted to meet with China over their proposed plan before evaluating it.

According to AFP, China has pledged to publish its “political solution” roadmap to the Ukraine war this week.

Kyiv-Beijing

Ukraine’s president Zelensky said in a joint press conference with visiting Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez in Kyiv that Beijing has told them they have such a plan, but he did not see the document.  Zelensky thought it was a perfect fact that Beijing started talking about Kyiv and sent some signals.

He said that they would draw some conclusions following they see the specifics of what they offer. He added that they would like to have a meeting with Beijing over the proposed roadmap.  On Wednesday, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi held meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After Wang Yi’s trip, Russia said China had presented its ideas on approaches to a “political settlement” of the conflict in Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said in a statement that their Chinese partners briefed them on their views about the causes of the Ukrainian issue as well as approaches to its political solution.

AFP reported that Ukraine had also published a peace plan of its own, asking the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from its territory and an international tribunal to prosecute Russia for its aggression.
