Zil Hajj Moon Sighted, Eid ul Adha on June 17

ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee on Friday announced that Eid ul Adha would fall on Monday (June 17) as the Zil Hajj moon was sighted.

The announcement came after a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee in Karachi, while meetings of zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees were held at their respective headquarters concurrently.

The moon sighting committee was chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, and attended by the members of the Ruet-i-Hilal Commit­tee, as well as officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Meanwhile, sub-committees in Lahore, Peshawar and other cities are also convened in respective areas to gather testimonies.

Eid ul Adha falls on the tenth day of Zil Hajj, which also marks the Hajj pilgrimage.

With Eid ul Adha just around the corner, cattle markets have been established in different areas for people to purchase cows, goats, sheep, or camels for sacrifice.
