Doha: Qatar has strongly condemned the storming of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza by the Israeli occupation forces that led to the deaths of a number of patients, including children.

The Qatari foreign ministry in a statement on Wednesday called for an urgent international probe, including the United Nations to investigate the targeting hospitals by the Israeli occupation army.

The statement said the raid amounts to a war crime and an open violation of international laws and agreements, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention.

It added the attack is an extension of the occupation’s approach to target hospitals, schools and population centres in Gaza Strip.

The foreign minister also called on the global community to take urgent action to hold Israel answerable and stop it from committing more crimes against civilians.

Necessary protection should be provided to displaced people

It further said that the necessary protection should be provided for the thousands of displaced people who are taking shelter in the complex along with the sick, wounded and medical personnel.

The ministry said that the silence of the international community over the crimes against humanity committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people will encourage Israel to continue with more atrocities, that would lead to further escalation and instability in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Qatar’s firm position on the Palestinian cause, and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to the health ministry in Gaza, Israel’s intensified aerial bombardment and ground offensive have martyred 11,500 people, mostly civilians, including thousands of children.
