Three Children Among Five in Hospital After Dublin Stabbing

DUBLIN: Five people, including three children, were taken to hospital on Thursday after stabbing outside a central school in Dublin, Irish police said.

According to western media reports the police after the incident cordoned off Parnell Square in the Irish capital but do not suspect a terror motive.

Irish media outlets reported the incident was believed to be the act of stabbing.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced that suspect had been arrested and the police started the investigation.

A statement said that Garda Siochana is not looking for any other person at this time. It said five casualties have been taken to different hospitals in Dublin.

It said that an adult male, an adult female and three young children are the victims. It added one girl child has sustained serious injuries while the other two children are being treated for less serious injuries.

It further said the adult female is being treated for serious injuries and the adult male for less serious injuries.

The statement added that officers were investigating the matter and its circumstances. The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 pm (1330 GMT). It said the force is in touch with parents of all three injured children.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar expressed shock over the incident, which took place outside a primary school.

Local lawmaker Aodhan O Riordai termed that act of stabbing as disturbing. In a post on X, formerly Twitter he said the incident will extremely traumatize everyone.
